George Munro - Hokonui

Nestled in the hamlet of Hokonui, the Munro farm is surrounded by gullies and native bush. The hills are steeped in history, from early pioneers to Māori legends. The Munro whānau has been farming here for over 40 years, selectively breeding sheep to produce finer, softer crossbred lambswool. This lambswool, known for being soft, moisture-wicking, hypoallergenic, and breathable, is preferred by some over merino for its thicker fibers that trap heat against the skin.George Munro's core values guide everything from product design to customer service. They celebrate their diverse heritage, blending tradition with modernity. By supporting the local wool industry, George Munro offers customers the chance to make ethical decisions while enjoying luxurious, low micron wool products.

Te Waahi started as an idea to help secure a stable income for a free Dunedin based youth program we run called Tamariki Together. The cost of running this free program has taken a toll on our pockets so we purchased this food truck to help keep our program free for all Rangatahi.

We’d like to briefly introduce our program named Tamariki Together also known as T&T, the name itself is what we do ‘Bring children Together”. Our main aim was to create a safe place for all young ones to come together, do activities but most of all building a family-like bond through the art of fun which allows them to develop relationships and team bonding skills with their surroundings.

We also run a music program named Music Heals, it gives our young artists an opportunity to create, record and express themselves by having complete access to Music Heals’ professional recording equipment and utilizing the expertise of our facilitators. Us as leaders want to make sure our Rangatahi have different ways to express their emotions and sometimes it’s hard for them to talk about challenges they may be facing in life so this is why Music Heals will benefit a lot of our youth to help bring their barriers down. We also have access to navigation stations for troubled families who need that extra guidance and support on what steps to take to resolve any challenges they may be facing.
